Danny Darrow is a friend of mine

December hasn't been the best of months, music love-wise. But I'd like to think that this has merely been an opportunity for you, dear reader and fellow music lover, to get acquainted with some of the deliciousness I've posted in the past. See, there's a reason for everything.

And here are some more reasons for future past acquaintednessess.

Danny Darrow did all kinds of stuff. Well, actually I have no idea if he did, but I know he sang all kinds of stuff. He released (at least) four albums on Mighty Records, two of which are full of songs to make you swoon at someone's wedding, songs like 'Greensleeves' and 'Fools Rush In' with strings and tuxedos...very weird stuff when compared to his other two albums, which were simply brilliant disco percussionish emo-madness. To be honest I'm kind of confused, because I can't see why--or how--these songs could ever be by the same guy. 'Telephones', my favorite, came out in 1979, but 'Falling in Love', with songs like 'Corporate Lady', 'Wonderland of Love' and 'Merry Go Round of Love' (I'm not making this up), came out in 1981 -- only two years later! Maybe Danny Darrow was kidnapped by a crooner who then stole his identity, or maybe he's just a prolific artist with a heart of gold.

I might need some more time to properly get his croonin' era, but until I do, I'm sticking with the good stuff.

Just so you know, I'm giving you this ultra-long version of 'Telephones'. It's over 10 minutes long (and 19MBs), while the 'original' is around 5 minutes. The bongo was probably hit around 15,000 times. Oh, 1979, year of the bongo.

Again, don't be alarmed or sad if you buy one of his albums to find a bunch of wedding hits; just be happy. He did a lot of different songs, but luckily they're grouped together on different albums. And you never know, you might end up loving his sweet side just as much. It's up to you and your heart.

But to stay on the safe side, here's more good stuff.

Danny Darrow is definitely the unsung hero at the cosmic disco...I only heard 'Doomsday' a few hours ago over at the truly wonderful diskoakademin blogspot and I nearly fell over after I had soaked up nine minutes of a track that is up there with the Disconet remix of Skatt Bros 'Walk The Night', Jellybean remix of Easy Going's 'Fear' and The Intergalactic Orchestra's 'Demon Gods'.

Many thanks for sharing the Telephone & Impulse tracks, they are pretty damned awesome as well! I checked out his MP3 releases (really cheap) on Amazon and they had samples of his material from the crooning album and some folky stuff, like you said, its hard to believe its the same artist....from deep dark Italoesque cosmic disco to surreal easy listening numbers; never have I heard the same artist create such widely divergent music.

And now I have heard his material thanks to these music blogs (otherwise I doubt I would ever come into contact with his records) I am off to order three of his releases on MP3, so stick that up your lying propagandising ass DMCA!!!
